Location of the Embera Tribe
The Embera tribe lives on a dam called Lake Alajuela on the upper side of the Chagres River, an hour away from Panama City plus 45 minutes by canoe. This lake is very important due to the fact that supplies water to the Panama Canal. The Embera people have built their village 4 miles upriver from Lake Alajuela, within the limits of the National Park.
To take you to the Embera Tour you will be driven by bus or mini van to Lake Alajuela. On the shores of Lake Alajuela there is a dock called “Puerto Corotu” where you will be transport upriver to the Embera Native Community by piragua (native canoe). This is an hour canoe ride and a wonderful experience out of “National Geographic” you will never forget!
